Alternative Sampling Devices to Collect Dried Blood Microsamples

چکیده

Dried blood spots (DBS) have been used in newborn screening programs for several years. More recently, there has growing interest using DBS as a home sampling tool the quantitative determination of analytes. However, this presents challenges, mainly because well-known hematocrit effect and other DBS-specific parameters, including spotted volume punch site, which could add to method uncertainty. Therefore, new microsampling devices that quantitatively collect capillary dried are continuously being developed. In review, we provided an overview commercially available or under development allow (volumetric) collection (-based) microsamples meant be remote sampling. Considering field therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM), examined different aspects important device implemented clinical practice, ease patient use, technical performance, integration workflow laboratory. Costs related briefly discussed, additionally plays role decision-making process. Although added value TDM willingness patients perform demonstrated some studies, real implementation is progressing at slower pace. extensive evaluation these newly developed devices, not only analytically but also clinically, needed demonstrate their real-life applicability, prerequisite use TDM.

Capillary Microsampling of Mouse Blood in Early Pre-Clinical Studies: A Preferred Alternative to Dried Blood Spot Sampling

Pre-clinical pharmacokinetic (PK) studies establish the key parameters of clearance, volume of distribution and oral bioavailability for novel chemical entities in drug discovery. Following favourable in vitro screens for metabolism and permeability, early in vivo evaluation ensures that chemical series and potential drug candidates with poor in vivo profiles are deprioritised early, focusing p...

Cost Evaluation of Dried Blood Spot Home Sampling as Compared to Conventional Sampling for Therapeutic Drug Monitoring in Children

Dried blood spot (DBS) sampling for the purpose of therapeutic drug monitoring can be an attractive alternative for conventional blood sampling, especially in children. This study aimed to compare all costs involved in conventional sampling versus DBS home sampling in two pediatric populations: renal transplant patients and hemato-oncology patients. Total costs were computed from a societal per...

When to collect blood specimens: midmorning vs fasting samples.

This study was carried out to define the consequences of collecting blood specimens during the forenoon instead of using fasting specimens collected early in the morning. Extensive laboratory data were obtained from specimens collected from fasting participants at 0800, after breakfast at 0930, and again at 1100. The subjects were inpatients in medical and surgical wards (n = 51; 13 women and 3...

The multi-region hybridization assay (MHAbce) for genotyping HIV-1 subtypes B, C and circulating recombinant form (CRF01_AE) was evaluated on paired plasma and dried blood spots (DBS) collected from 68 HIV-1 infected individuals in Thailand. CRF01_AE was the predominant subtype identified using plasma samples (51/62) and DBS (24/27). There was no discordance in subtype designations between plas...

Dried blood spot sampling: practical considerations and recommendation for use with preclinical studies.

At present it is necessary to use animals to generate toxicokinetic data as part of preclinical safety studies. However, ethical standards require animal use to be carefully monitored and the principles of the 3Rs: replacement, reduction and refinement, to be considered and applied. Use of dried blood spot (DBS) samples, typically 10 to 20 µl, rather than the larger blood volumes required to ob...
